Scott Colton, better known by his ring name Colt Cabana, was born on May 6, 1980 in Deerfield Illinois. Colt vividly recalls his first memory of Pro-wrestling, watching Andre the Giant get his haircut in a handicapped match on WWF television. From that moment on the only dream Colton had was to step in the squared circle like the heroes he watched on TV growing up. With wrestling being his true passion in life, Colt also pursued football in his Senior year of High school. Despite blowing out his MCL that year six games into the season, Colton caught the eye of Division 1A football team, Western Michigan Broncos. In 1998, Colt began to play for the Broncos along side future WWE Tough Enough Winner Matt Cappotelli. After his first season, Colton decided to put an end to his football career and finally start chasing his dream of becoming a Pro-wrestler. During his Freshman and Sophomore years of college Colt stayed in Chicago to train at the Steel Domain Training Center under the influence of Ace Steel (WXO/NOAH) and Danny Dominion (WWA/WXO). He trained the whole summer, never missing a day and would also come in on off days for extensive one-on-one training. Colt finished college earning a bachelors degree in business-marketing, while still continuing his wrestling training. Colt broke into Ring of Honor as Punk's stablemate in the Second City Saints. Cabana and Punk would later go on to hold the ROH Tag Team Championship two times. With Punk becoming a singles star, Cabana would go on to have feuds with Nigel McGuinness and Austin Aries. On August 13, 2005 Cabana defeated Punk in a two out of three falls match in their hometown of Chicago in what was supposed to be Punk's last ROH match before going to WWE. On November 11, 2005, Colt Cabana lost to Eugene, wrestling for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), as a jobber on their program Heat. Cabana had several other dark matches for WWE from 2005 through 2007 and wrestled superstars including Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Trevor Murdoch, Umaga, and Matt Hardy. Cabana had a very violent feud with Homicide in Ring of Honor, which featured Cabana being strangled with a metal coat hanger, bleeding from numerous chair shots, having Drāno poured down his throat, being piledriven off the ring apron through a table, and getting his head crushed between a ladder. On April 1, 2006 in Chicago, Colt Cabana finally got his revenge and earned the respect of Homicide after a brutal Chicago street fight which saw the feud settled with a handshake and an embrace. After his decisive victory against Homicide, Colt Cabana challenged the ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson for the ROH title on April 22, 2006 in Philadelphia. Danielson defeated him and retained the title. Cabana had a rematch against Danielson for the title on August 26, 2006 in Chicago. The two fought to a 60-minute time limit draw in a two out of three falls match, each wrestler earning one fall. In 2004 and 2005, Cabana went on extensive tours of Europe, mainly England. This is where Colt picked up a lot of British based wrestling technique which you can see in his current day wrestling style. Colt wrestled in England, Scotland, Germany and France. He received the 2004 Match of the Year in a European rounds style bout with World Of Sport journeyman, Johnny Kidd. Cabana also did a short tour of Puerto Rico for IWA PR in early 2005. During 2006, Cabana would become a popular wrestler in the British promotion 1 Pro Wrestling often tag teaming with Darren Burridge as Team SHAG (Street Hooligans Adventure Gang). During 1PW's first anniversary show Team SHAG won the 1PW Tag Team Championship during a three way ladder match against the defending champions Jonny Storm & Jody Fleisch, and the Southern Comfort team of Tracey Smothers & Chris Hamrick. In November 2006, Cabana taped several matches for Wrestling Society X, a new wrestling series on MTV. He competed under the name Matt Classic, who, according to his profile on WSX's offical webpage, is a throwback to the wrestlers of the 50's and 60's who was in a "coma" for 40 years and then woke up to wrestle again. He used The Claw and Abdominal Stretch as his finishing moves. To further enhance his gimmick as an old school wrestler, it is listed that he won the Heavyweight Championship in 1952 (28 years before he was born). On April 3, 2007 Cabana signed a World Wrestling Entertainment developmental contract. He began working for Ohio Valley Wrestling, the original WWE developmental territory and made his debut on May 30, 2007 as Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana. In February 2008, it was announced that the WWE severed their ties with OVW and all contracted talent would be moved to Florida Championship Wrestling in Tampa Florida. Cabana made his FCW debut on March 11, 2008 against Mighty Mikey Colt has gone through many of the hardships that many wrestling legends have gone through indluing long trips, small pay, constant injuries. Missing everyday life events seems to be part of the job now. This hasn’t stopped Colt though, as he was destined to be the best pro wrestler he could be and make an impression on others, the way wrestlers of the past influenced him as a child. He's achieved many of his goals and lives out his dream everyday, one day at a time. Colt is a true student of the game. He eats, sleeps and lives pro wrestling. Colt's career is only going skywards. |
